Our aim

This site should be usable on a low-cost phone, on a slow connection, with a screen reader, and by someone who navigates with a keyboard rather than a pointer. That is a large part of the audience, not an edge case.

What is built in

We aim to follow the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1 at Level AA. Measures currently in place:

• A skip link is the first element on every page, so a keyboard user can jump straight to the content.
• Headings run in order without skipped levels, so a screen reader can outline the page.
• Menus open with a real button that reports its state, so they work without a mouse.
• Frequently asked questions use the browser’s own expandable elements, which are keyboard operable and announced correctly.
• Text colours are chosen to meet AA contrast against their background.
• Text reflows to a single column on a narrow screen with no sideways scrolling, and can be enlarged without content being cut off.
• Wide tables sit in a region a keyboard user can focus and scroll.
• Form fields have real labels, and errors are described in words rather than by colour alone.
• Images carry alternative text; decorative icons are hidden from assistive technology.
• Marathi and English passages are marked with the correct language, so a screen reader pronounces each properly.
• Animation is reduced automatically if your system asks for reduced motion.
• No web fonts are loaded, so text renders immediately and never flashes invisible.
• Nothing essential depends on JavaScript. With scripts blocked, both languages simply appear together.

Known limitations

Being straight about this is more useful than a bare compliance claim:

• We have not completed a full audit with every combination of screen reader and browser. Code-level measures reduce barriers but do not by themselves prove conformance; that needs manual testing with assistive technology and expert review.
• Some official documents we link to are PDFs published by government departments. Those are outside our control and may not be accessible. If a linked PDF is unusable for you, tell us and we will describe its relevant content in plain HTML on the page.
• Content on external sites we link to is not within our control.
